Overview of the Volleyball Program

Firebirds have both girls and boys volleyball in the fall.  The season goes from mid-August to the end of October.  On average matches are half home and half away.  Matches are against other homeschool organizations within 60-75 minute drive along with local Christian school teams.  Teams do participate in several tournaments throughout the season.  The boys have an additional season in the spring from end of March to end of May.  In the fall boys play against homeschool organizations and in the spring play against private and Ohio public schools.

Age Divisions

Girls 12u/Elementary (On September 1st- 8 to 12 yrs old)

Our elementary program focus is to learn fundamentals of volleyball in a recreational, family-friendly, God-honoring setting; build confidence; challenge the girls to excellence, focus on godly character development, good sportsmanship, team building, and having fun – while learning the rules of the game and basic volleyball skills. All who are interested in playing are welcome!

*Due to the nature of the game of volleyball, it is impossible to guarantee equal play time; however, at this level we strive to give all girls exposure to all positions on the court. Volleyball Season: 2 or 3 days per week.  1 practice  (Typically Mondays), 1-2 matches (Typically Tuesdays and Thursdays).  Our elementary team goes to four tournaments: Mid-Michigan Mustangs Pre-Season, Washtenaw Christian, Firebird Dig It and States.

Girls 14u/Junior High (On September 1st-13 & 14 yrs old)

Our Junior High program focus is to develop fundamental skills of volleyball in a family-friendly, God-honoring setting; build confidence; challenge the girls to excellence; focus on godly character development, good sportsmanship, team building, and having fun – while developing and strengthening basic volleyball skills.

*Due to the nature of the game of volleyball, equal play time is impossible. We realize all kids practice hard and want to play. We will strive to give all girls play time and exposure to different positions while also recognizing that some girls may have developed skill in certain positions already. Volleyball Season: 3 days per week.  1 practice  (Typically Mondays), 2 matches (Typically Tuesdays and Thursdays).  Our Junior High team goes to five tournaments: Side Out!, Washtenaw Christian, Firebird Dig It Midwest Classic and States.  Two tournaments are out of state.

Girls 16u/Junior Varsity (On September 1st-15 & 16 yrs old)

Our Junior Varsity program focus is to strengthen fundamental skills of volleyball in a more competitive, yet God-honoring setting; build confidence; challenge the girls to excellence, focus on godly character development, good sportsmanship, and team building – while strengthening and refining basic volleyball skills.

*While we realize that all girls practice very hard, the nature of the game of volleyball does not allow for us to provide equal play time. We will strive for all girls to get in the game at times that would accentuate their strengths, challenge them, build their confidence, and benefit the team as a whole. Volleyball Season: 3-4 days per week.  1-2 practice  (Typically Mondays and Fridays), 2 matches (Typically Tuesdays and Thursdays).  Our Junior Varsity team goes to six  tournaments: Side Out!, Liberty Flames, Washtenaw Christian, Firebird Dig It Midwest Classic and States.  Two tournaments are out of state and one out of town.

Girls 18u/Varsity (On September 1st-17 & 18 yrs old)

Our Varsity program focus is to refine fundamental skills of volleyball in a competitive, yet God-honoring setting; build confidence; challenge the girls to excellence, focus on godly character development, good sportsmanship, team building, and having fun – while refining and perfecting basic volleyball skills.

*It is important to note that because of the nature of the game of volleyball, equal play time is impossible. However, we will strive for all girls to get in the game at times that would accentuate their strengths, challenge them, build their confidence, and benefit the team as a whole. Volleyball Season: 4 days per week.  2 practice  (Typically Mondays and Fridays), 2 matches (Typically Tuesdays and Thursdays).  Our Varsity team goes to seven tournaments: Huron Valley Pre-Season, Side Out!, Liberty Flames, Washtenaw Christian, Firebird Dig It Midwest Classic and States.  Two tournaments are out of state and one out of town.

Boys 18u/Varsity (On September 1st-14 to 18 yrs old)

Our Varsity program focus is to refine fundamental skills of volleyball in a competitive, yet God-honoring setting; build confidence; challenge the boys to excellence, focus on godly character development, good sportsmanship, team building, and having fun – while refining and perfecting basic volleyball skills.

*It is important to note that because of the nature of the game of volleyball, equal play time is impossible. However, we will strive for all boys to get in the game at times that would accentuate their strengths, challenge them, build their confidence, and benefit the team as a whole. Volleyball Season: 4 days per week.  2 practice  (Typically Mondays and Fridays), 2 matches (Typically Tuesdays and Thursdays).  Our Varsity team goes to four fall tournaments: Mid-Michigan Pre-Season, Kalamazoo Throw Down, Midwest Lions  and States.  The team goes to two spring tournaments: Battle in the Mitten and Indiana Regional.
